Back down the rock

Lower down there were no nests just lots and lots of birds – perhaps waiting for the chumming to start again or to decide to fly out and find food elsewhere.

Here the steps that we have to go down to get back onto our boat.

The large concreted areas were also full of waiting birds.
Back to North Berwick
Our boat for the visit.

Lunch at the Rocketeer
By 11 am we were all very hungry and looking forward for something to eat. After our terrible experience a couple of days ago we headed further away from the harbour to the Rocketeer Restaurant. What a difference – friendly staff, curious about our time on the rock and where we had all come from.
Bamburgh
After all the excitement of Bass Rock the journey back was full of our the group sharing memories. Back at the hotel I went for a shower and and tried to get some rest for a few hours. The evening meal was an excellent meal of delicious soup followed by scampi and chips – more than perhaps I should have eaten.
Dunstanburgh Castle
Next was a trip down the coast to see Dustanburgh Castle from the shore. From my two guide books Dustanburgh Castle is on page 35 of The Photographer’s Guide to Northumberland and on page 130 of Photographing Northumberland.

To get closer we had to walk past a links golf course. Sometimes being very close to golfers teeing off and none too happy having a large group of people tramping past. This part of the coast still had pill boxes alongside the coastal path.

Balancing on rocks as the tide came in.
An eider duck and her chicks came past.

Then it was time to pack up and head back to Bamburgh now it was 9:15pm.

The path did have a few ups and downs!

A closer look at the pill box.

The next day was another exciting day as we would be visiting Holy Island – Lindisfarne.
