After our visit to Alnwick and Craster we again took a day off from travelling. The following day we went to the second place in Northumbria that we came to see – Holy Island.
Day 6: 14th May 2025: Bamburgh, Northumberland
After breakfast we walked into Bamburgh and onto the beach.
Lunch was in the cafe that was in the walled garden.
Later in the afternoon we went back to Seahouses for another visit to the Co-Op and to the craft food shop.

The rest day really started in the late afternoon. These are more views around the pond in the back garden.
Day 7: 15th May 2025: Holy Island, Northumberland
Once we had parked on Holy Island we headed for the St Mary The Virgin Church.
Lindisfarne Priory
From the ruined priory we walked up to the war memorial that overlooked Lindisfarne. There I climbed the Lookout Tower for better views.
Holy Island Beach
Lindisfarne Castle
We walked towards the castle and I stopped at the place to emulate the images that I had taken on my visit with Robert Harvey in 2021.
We dodged the grazing sheep and walked over to the Gertrude Jekyll garden. From there this is back view of the castle.
In the very busy coach park we met up with our friends. The wash basins there had taken quite a beating!
Lunch at the Crown and Anchor
By now Holy Island was very busy and we had to walk past a few places to eat until we found the Crown and Anchor which had space in its back room.
To make sure we didn’t get stuck with the tides we we then walked back to the car and set off back to Bamburgh.
Bamburgh
This was our last evening in the rented house so sadly we started packing.
Next we travelled back to Rainton but stopped at a few places on our way South.
