There were only a few days before my deadline to submit images in my current RPS workshop course. I hoped that a quick trip into London would deliver some images that I could claim echoed the “style” of Garry Winogrand. I was joined a couple of colleagues from Farnborough Photographic Club. The SWR trains were all delayed due to a failure at Clapham. We did catch a much delayed train that ran fast after Woking and we were surprisingly only 10 minutes than planned!
Waterloo
This visit coincided with Ascot Week and attendees were crossing the concourse heading for the platforms to take them up to to Ascot.

South Bank
After crossing York Street we headed towards the London Eye and the South Bank.

A new addition on the South Bank was a booth showing live eBay auctions.

Another image of the yellow stairs of the Southbank Centre – different angle for my April 2026 workshop with Matt Badenoch.

The book sale . . .
This art was placed by Tate Modern to advertise their upcoming exhibition of Frida Kahlo’s art.

Under Blackfriars Bridge

Tate Modern
By now the temperature had nearly reached 30C and we headed into Tate Modern to have a break from the heat.

Rather than stay in my usual places in the lower levels, I went upstairs and wandered through the galleries.
Going back down I tried my luck on the escalators.
I queued for 15 minutes for a sandwich at the Corner Cafe and then a further 10 to pay! Patience is definitely a virtue here and it is a good job that the food is excellent even if a little expensive.

After the Tate Modern we carried along the South Bank heading towards London Bridge.
Up Dirty Lane we headed towards Borough Market. In the arches we passed a queue of several hundred people. This was managed by “security” as it passed other shops and corners in the arches. Out of curiosity, I walked to the front and all was revealed. Everyone was queueing for a pop-up shop selling T-shirts for Harry Style’s concerts that are currently on an extended run at Wembley Stadium. Then we walked through Borough Market.
Once out the humidity and sweltering heat (from all the bodies!) we went up to the top of Borough Hight Street for some long exposure photography.
And finally on London Bridge. . .

We then walked via Shard Place down into London Bridge Station to catch a train back to Waterloo East. I was hoping that from the images of the day I would have images to submit!
