After the busy day visiting Llyn Cau and the slate mill the day before this was the day we moved hotels to be based in Llanberis.
The Snowdonia National Park officially adopted its traditional Welsh name, Eryri, in November 2022. Our tour had been booked before and for simplicity I have retained its original name of the tour.
Day 3: Sunday 14th May 2023
Yet another early start to our day.
Llynnau Cregennen (view of Cadair Idris and Bryn Brith)
Once I left the minibus I recognised where we were as this was a place that I had been to on an earlier visit to North Wales.

Dolgellau
Now we packed up from the hotel in Dolgellau. We checked out and then followed the tour minibus in our cars.
Pistyll Cain
From the car park we followed a wide track until we reached Pistyll Cain.
The Danger sign says it all…
Taking turns we went to the end of the path and then clambered down the rocks to a ledge.
I was the last to get to the small ledge and I was rather rushed to get my image…

The Fairy Glen
The Fairy Glen was the second place we visited that I knew well. I had visited after my first CPAGB attempt near Conway and subsequently on quiet days when visiting the Mach Loop. So many cars arriving at the same time and filling the car park prompted a visit from the owners (?) to make sure that we all paid our entrance fees!
Once down in the gorge we set up on our tripods to capture the water flowing through.
I skipped climbing back out the way we came in and opted for the much longer walk back. This was along the banks of the river as it left the gorge and then a path that lead back up to the ruined buildings and the entrance.

The Royal Victoria Hotel
After the Fairey Glen we headed for our new hotel, The Royal Victoria Hotel. This is in Llanberis, between Llyn Padarnand Llyn Peris. After checking in we had to carry our luggage along a series of corridors and through fire doors to get to the “Coach House”.
The long corridor is highlighted in YELLOW and the Coach House where our rooms were is highlighted in RED.
My room…
I contacted my cousin who now lives close enough to come and visit the hotel and we had a late supper together.
An early start the next day for Llyn Idwal and later an afternoon on Anglesey.
