After visiting Giverny a day visiting the D-Day beaches was our other reason for spending a week in Normandy near Houlgate.
Day 5: Wednesday 2nd July 2025: D-Day beaches
The first beach was Sword…

Juno beach …
Coffee time at this hotel.

Overlooking the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanche…

This lovely car was parked next to us. This are the latest sculptures celebrating the heroes of D-Day.

We drove into the American sector to visit a place that I’d never visited before – Pointe Du Hoc. This where the US Rangers climbed cliffs to take gun batteries always under fire…
The craters from the naval bombardment were very deep.
Inside the gun batteries was spooky…

After the beaches we drove back via the outskirts of Caen. My satnav had a lot of issues and we had to make a couple of diversions. The traffic was horrendous and it took us nearly twice as long as planned to get back to Houlgate. Then we made a quick stop at the supermarket.
