After our second visit to ports in Denmark, Island Princess sailed North to Haugesund in Norway.

Day 17: Friday 14th July 2023: Haugesund, Norway
After breakfast, we went off the ship to catch the bus to take us into Haugesund. This was the second time in this port for us and we were looking forward to this visit.
Haugesund
The short bus ride took us to the Our Savior’s Church just above the pedestrian precinct.
Going to see the statue of Marilyn Monroe , by the Norwegian sculpture Nils Aas, is an obligatory walk here. So we left the church and headed straight down to the quay and then turned left. This took us past tied up boats as well as around restaurants whose walls jutted out onto the wooden Walkway.
We had to wait for a group of tourist to take the images before we could take ours. The stature celebrates the town’s claim that Marilyn’s baker father was from the region.

Back up on the pedestrian precinct, Haraldsgata, we checked out the shops on both sides as we headed towards the doughnut café, Haugli Bakeri.
The Haugli Bakery
After we had ordered our lattes and doughnuts we sat down for a rest. The service in this bahery was as friendly and efficient as when we last called for doughnuts.
The walls are decorated with flowers AND doughnuts!
The King Harald statue
We carried on walking along Haroldsgata until we reached the small park and then we crossed over to the see the statue at the end of a small cul-de-sac.
Around the statue was a small garden and below we had excellent views of the island of Hasseløy.
Haraldsgata
This mural was on Asbygata.
After visiting the shopping mall, we got the shuttle back to Ireland Princess and had room service deliver us a late lunch.
The dock on Risøy island
The cruise terminal for Haugesund is on Risøy island. We could see out through the sound the open sea. Below us was a small ferry dock. This was where the ferry for Utsira island docked.
Leaving Haugesund
Our departure was delayed while the ship waited for excursion coaches to return. The good news for us was that we had the Sun on our balcony.
In the evening

Before dinner on deck six, we had a drink in the Crooners Bar. On our table we shared with another couple from the UK, an Australian couple and a French couple.
An evening with Jayson Keeler
The show in the theatre by Jayson Keeler was excellent.

On our bed, we had notification of a required passport check that would take place on the ship before we docked in Lerwick. Our next port would be Ålesund.
