On Saturday 31st October with colleagues from Farnborough Photography Club I went to see the St James’s Motoring Spectacle along Pall Mall. The main attraction were the veteran cars ready for the Brighton Veteran car run the next day.
I planned to try and take “snaps” for the last evening of my RPS Mono workshop series before we left St James’s.
Statues on the way
From Charing Cross we walked to Pall Mall.
The Lady in Blue, a 9-foot-tall painted bronze sculpture by American artist Tschabalala Self, is installed on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square.

This resin sculpture by Banksy appeared overnight at Waterloo Place in London in April 2026.

St James’s Motoring Spectacle

In Waterloo Place this veteran car from Germany was being fired up.
The first car I paused at was the beautiful Alfa.

Then I came to the newer cars!
LR Defender from the Dakar Rally.

A beautiful old Jaguar.
I had to have a rest and a coffee.

More images from my colleagues can be found on Farnborough’s website.
Snaps on St James’s
From Pall Mall we walked up St James’s heading for Green Park station. I was now using my “vintage” Canon IXUS 75.

I had taken pictures on Pall Mall with my IXUS 75 (the Bugatti above for example) but now I wanted to take “snaps” for my upcoming RPS mono workshop in the style of Daidō Moriyama.
More about my snapping and my chosen images are here in this blog.
Our plan had been to go to Columbia Road flower market to see the Day of the Dead celebration. A combination of the crush at Pall Mall and tube closures meant we simply headed back to Waterloo. We did have enough time to pay a quick visit to Leake Street.
