This was my first visit in 2025 to Richmond Park to see the deer rut. The roads through the park are now permanently closed for some routes. This meant that access to the Pen Ponds car park was not possible from the Richmond Gate. Instead we stopped at the almost empty car park of Pembroke Lodge.
Our plan for the morning was to head for Pen Ponds.
On our right we could hear the clash of antlers…

We followed these two stags as they made their way (together!) through the park. One of them paused often to bray quite often a\nd even added ferns to his already impressive antlers.
Pen Ponds
Since last year the path between the ponds was completed plus one side of a pond was now fenced off from visitors.
To my surprise the island also had deer on it.
This area had drawn a large group of deer on the beach.

After the doe and fawn walked past us from the side of the pond we turned to walk up the path towards to the Pen Ponds car park.
And then it was time for an excellent bacon roll!
