Friday 30th June was my first Summer 2026 organised street photography walk in London for members of Farnborough Photography Club (FPC.) We met at Farnborough Main for the 9:32 train to Waterloo. No surprise that the train was a few minutes late.
The original route had to be modified as rain was forecast in the morning followed by a hot afternoon.
Kings Cross
From Waterloo we headed for Kings Cross and spent an hour or so there.
The roof was lit with multi-coloured lights…

I moved along the mezzanine crossed into the bridge over the platforms.

On the food mezzanine I stopped for a coffee at the Costa kiosk. Queues to the left and pickup to the right – remember for next time!

The light tunnel
After my planning visits for Valérie Jardin’s October 2025 workshop I now can find the light tunnel without getting lost in the tunnels under the stations. From the concourse walk past Oliver Bonas shop and down the escalator there. Then follow the signs to St Pancras and the light tunnel is there on the right. This day the light tunnel was illuminated by mult-coloured lights – quite an impact!
We walked to end of the tunnel and up the escalator to Kings Boulevard.
Coal Drops Yard
What little rain there had now passed and we switched the itinerary again to stay outside. As almost everyone in the group had never visited Coal Drops Yard so this was now too good an opportunity to miss.
After Granary Square we went up the steps and into the mezzanine of the yard.

Regent canal and the gas holders
Down through the yard we walked to the canal.
The listed gas holders are at the side of the canal. The mirrors around the gas holder that has been turned into a public space give lots of opportunities for reflections.
From the gas holders we carried on walking to the first of the tunnels.

On the way back these ladies agreed to pose for me…

Lunch in Coal Drops Yard
We had the last toasted sandwiches plus iced tea.

The crowds were still watching Wimbledon at the side of the canal.

We were then back to the original plan and headed back to the Underground to go down to Green Park.

Jermyn Street
This guy was set up by the Savoy with his tripod.

Jermyn Street was jammed with traffic and as I walked down I could see lots of building work. I headed up the Piccadilly Arcade to Piccadilly rather than stay with the traffic.
Old Bond Street
Over Piccadilly and onto Old Bond Street where we hoped to catch up with the celebrity that was drawing crowds.

At Ralph Lauren we turned onto Burlington Gardens for our walk back to Piccadilly Underground.

Then Vigo street…
Then down Regent Street…
And finally we all practised long exposure as buses turned into Regent Street.

At Waterloo we split up and I went for my “mandatory” visit to Leake Street to see the latest art there. These are the new pieces by Abraham_01 and Olivier Roubieu.

My step count for the day was over 15k — much more than was promised in the original itinerary!
