This was the halfway point of this cruise on Island Princess. The majority of passengers (1,600 out of 1,900 guests) would be leaving the ship here in Copenhagen. The next half of the cruise would take us to on to Norway, Iceland and to Scotland. Our day in Poland had been a success as we had finally visited Gdansk and had a surprise visit to the Baltic coast at Sopot.
Day 15: Wednesday 12th July 2023: Copenhagen, Denmark
The weather did not look promising after we had docked in Copenhagen. The forecasted rain had already started. The buffet was not very busy as we had guessed it would be. The leaving passengers had already eaten and perhaps had even left the ship.
Rather than walking to Copenhagen, we caught the provided shuttle bus.

We were surprised at the bus stopped by a Metro station rather than taking directly into the centre. Definitely a first for us, we decided to stay on the bus and go back to the ship. The rain was now really pouring down and this was the tiebreaker on our decision not to go into the city.
Back onboard Island Princess
While we waited for hopefully the rain to subside, we played Rummikub in the library with our friends from the USA. But the rain did not stop all day!
We ate lunch in the restaurant onDeck 5 and then we went back to our cabin and watched the film.
This became a forced restful day. After drinking in Crooners we were in the hunt for somewhere to eat. The restaurant on Deck 5 was busy so we went up to Deck 6. There we shared a table for six. On the table were a couple from the UK and a couple from the USA. The Americans suggested that we held hands and pray. Once that was out of the way we all chatted. The UK gentleman was a serial starter of new companies and the Americans were a lawyer and a retired dean of a university. At this point we didn’t know that this American couple would be our table companions for many more meals over the coming days.
Kenny Martin
In the theatre we watched the instrumentalist Kenny Martin play the clarinet along with the ship’s orchestra.
Another fascinating show.
