After our missed port Akureyri was our first landing in Iceland. We booked a tour via Princess Cruises to tale us to the Goðafoss waterfall.
Day 22: Wednesday 19th July 2023: Akureyri, Iceland
And some views:
After a quick breakfast in the buffet we left Island Princess to join our tour. This French expedition ship was also docked.
Starting the tour
We were in a small coach for this trip.
Goðafoss Waterfall
After our “ride” on the bus we arrived at Goðafoss, The Waterfall of the Gods”
The bus was parked by a building that contained a shop, restaurant and loos. After our walk to the falls we spent time inside until our meet-up time. BUT as per usual on trips we were missing a couple. After 10 minutes we just missing the lady. The driver was getting quite upset and asked some us to go looking for her. Another 25 minutes later she appeared and we could leave…
The Akureyri View Point
We went back a different route to Akureyri.
The bus stopped at the Akureyri View Point on Hringvegur (Route 1). From there we could see the town and the docked ships across the fjord.
Back in Akureyri
The bus went off the main road and took us along parallel roads so that we could see parts of the town.

Walking around Akureyri
On the main street the wonderful art was there.
Time for a drink!
Leaving Akureyri
From the balcony I could see one of the whale watching boats circling.
Then there it was our first whale…
Then Island Princess was out in the Atlantic.
On the Bayou
After our evening meal we went to see the ship’s company perform “On the Bayou”. This is one of our favourites on Princess Cruises. The smaller theatre on Island Princess may not give the cast enough space that can used on other ships BUT the show is great fun!
After the show looking out we watched a passing Viking cruise ship. On the cruise Facebook group a passenger posted that they had spaces on a private tour in Grundarfjordur. A quick reply and the spaces were ours. Luckily we had a supply of US Dollars to pay for the spaces and their cabin was a few cabins down on our deck!
Our next port was Grundarfjordur with a private trip around the peninsular.
