Spirit of Discovery only had a short passage from Savona to Livorno overnight.

Day 9: Saturday 18th May 2024:Livorno,Italy
Our booked excursion was just after 9 am and we had breakfast in our cabin while the ship was docking.

Further down our dock we could see two private boats next to the opposite wall.
The motor yacht had its own special tender alongside.

To Livorno
The Italian authorities required us to carry a government issued photo id. This could be a driver’s licence, bus pass or a passport. Our excursion was called “Snapshot of Livorno” and we were in the the Theatre just before 9 am ready to go.
From the coach window …
The city walls and street art
We left the coach and walked around the centre of Livorno.

At 10:30 we were back at the meeting point waiting for coach. The bad news this was exactly the same place that the other ship’s coaches were doing their pickups. It was chaotic with lots of pushing and shoving as the pavements were not wide enough for the clashing queues and the other pedestrians. Tempers even flared between tour guides of different coaches.

Livorno’s promenade
Once we were all safely back on the coach we headed out of the city to the sea and the promenade.
This we followed for several kilometers until at a roundabout we turned back and stopped by a small market.

At noon we were back at the port .

Once back on the ship we had a long lunch on the Veranda before sitting on our balcony to read.
Evening and Gareth Oliver
After drinks on the Veranda we had dinner in the Main Dining Room sharing a table with five other passengers.

Gareth Oliver is a ventriloquist and hos show was very funny.
Our next port was Portoferraio on the island of Elba.
