Another short transit for our last port of Livorno and then this was our first visit to the island of Elba and its port of Portoferraio.

Day 10 Sunday 19th May: Portoferraio, Elba
To save time we had breakfast in our cabin as we would have to catch a tender to get on shore. Tickets for the tender were in the South Bar then we we were called down to the tender dock. This early tender there were only eight of us onboard.
These were our views as we approached Portoferraio.
On the tourist train around Portoferraio

Opposite the dock was a tourist train and for €5 each we took the train for a first look around Portoferraio.
Coffee time…
We walked back along the quay where the train had taken us.
Napoleon’s Villa
The island of Elba is famous for being the island where Napoleon was first exiled. From the quay we walked to the villa.
This villa was where Napoleon was first exiled from May 1814 to February 1815. There was a long queue to go inside.

From there we made our way back towards the se.
A drink and then lunch
After our rest and a drink we explored the shops further down the quay.
We joined friends for a light lunch. Everyone at the restaurant were so friendly and happy to see us…
More shops to explore.

Back to Spirit of Discovery
Passing ferriesThe Britannia Lounge
After dinner we went up to the Britannia Lounge. The resident band, Broadband, were playing.
We were there with everyone else to see Rats in the Kitchen play more UB40 hits.

Our next port was Calvi on the island of Corsica.
