We had a bumpy night after our day in Porto.
Day 6: Wednesday 21st August 2024: Vigo, Spain
Our relaxed trip continued as we slept past the ship’s arrival in the port. We were woken finally by the Captain’s welcome to Vigo message at 8 am. After a relaxed breakfast, we walked off the ship and headed towards the two large murals on the house ends up on the hill. I had seen these earlier when we on a P&O ship that had called in Vigo for the emergency disembarkation of a seriously ill passenger.
Here are the murals from by the fishing fleet dock.
Walking back through the old town we stopped and looked at the building facades with nothing behind.
Praza Porto do Sol
I waited in the square watching people move into and out of the shadows.
Further down the square above is the El Sireno (The Merman) .
On our left was one of the escalators that Vigo was famous for.
Rúa do Príncipe
From the square we walked up Rúa do Príncipe looking at the shops on both sides. We stopped for a coffee at Mamá elvira which was on the corner of Rúa Londres. The tables outside were in the shade.
Back up to the square we went right past a restaurant and through an archway to another square, Plaza del Constitucion.
Rúa Palma
By the time we reached this street we were again ready for a sit. We sat on a table with our backs to the church and enjoyed a cool drink plus nibbles.
Further down the street in a small square around the closed shop was some more art.
Back to the ship…
Afternoon on Spirit of Discovery
Lunch was again on balcony.
The sail away party was around the pool.
Duo Perfection with Romeo and Juliet
The show in the theatre was by a couple from the ship giving their first show doing aerobatic tricks and gymnastics.
Day 7: Thursday 22nd August 2024: At Sea
Another late start to the day after a very restful night. We had a “champagne breakfast” in the Grill. After breakfast we walked the decks and briefly saw dolphins.
As we walked around the ship, at the stern we came to a wedding taking place.
We ate again on the Veranda and afterwards stayed and chatted to the couple on the next table – all very relaxed. They were long standing travellers with Saga and they were eating with the Captain in the evening.
After dinner we skipped the entertainment to be rested for our busy day in Bilbao.
Our next port was Getxo and then a visit to nearby Bilbao
