Yesterday we had been to see André Rieu’s concert in Maastricht. After the concert we had been late back to our hotel in Helmond. Today we we had a late breakfast and a wander around Helmond before going to Utrecht, and then a last evening in Helmond. The trip was organised by Newmarket Holidays.
Day 3: Monday 14th July 2025: Helmond, The Netherlands
After breakfast I went for walk around Helmond. The tour manager had confirmed that there were more Cube houses. I crossed over the canal and walked past where we had eaten on Saturday and continued walking across the large open space towards the library. The wall of the library had this mural.
On a balcony overlooking the back of the shops was this statue of a couple.
More Cube houses
From the open space around the library I could see more Cube houses. We had visited the Cube house museum in Rotterdam. Here I was curious to see the houses in Helmond. Unlike Rotterdam these houses (as well as the others) were occupied rather than appearing to be offices.
On some of the houses were photographs detailing their construction, celebrating their completion and sadly a fire in one.
The fair
I walked through the not yet open shopping centre to the area of the fair.
One of the rides looked particularly scary!

Art in Helmond
The canal at the side of the hotel had interesting reflections underneath the elevated road that ran parallel to the canal and bypassed the centre.
Day 3: Monday 14th July 2025: Utrecht, The Netherlands
This is all about our half day in Utrecht.
Day 3: Monday 14th July 2025: Evening in Helmond
Once back in Helmond we left the hotel and walked over the canal to explore the fair in the early evening.
The ride looked even more scary when in operation!
One last look before we walked back to the canal and the restaurants.
We stopped at the Gastrobar and went down the steps to sit by the canal. Around us were were tables occupied by fellow travellers from Newmarket. After 10 minutes when no-one had appeared to take our order we left. On Saturday night the servers had seemed more interested in talking to each other and on this evening nothing had changed.
At La Perla we were greeted like long lost friends and we had an enjoyable pasta fuelled evening meal.
Our room!
Our last day promised to be better than planned as we were now going to Antwerp for a few hours rather than straight to Brussels.
