After our days in Tenerife and a sea day we were in Funchal for the second time this cruise.
Day 11: Monday 13th November 2023: Santa Cruz de Tenerife
After another lazy late breakfast in the Horizon buffet we caught the shuttle coach into the town.
The Covered Market
From the drop-off point we walked past the Christmas Market to the covered market.
From the covered market we turned left and headed for Rua de Santa Maria.
Rua de Santa Maria
I captured over 40 plus images of the doors along the street. Here’s a small selection:
And here they all are in one post.
I have a dedicated Street Art feed on Instagram here.
To the Forte de São Tiago
After the Rua de Santa Maria we walked to the fort and then had a sit down and a drink.
Back along the Rua Dom Carlos after the cable car we walked to the covered market again.
Rua Dr Fernao de Ornelas
We stopped at a cafe on the pedestrianised street for a drink and a much needed rest!
Back on Azura we booked the offerred “pre-travel” excursion for the day we flew out of Tenerife. The restaurants were busy and we accepted to sit on a table for eight. Our table companions must have been on different cruise to us from their long list of complaints. These included that the ship was going too slow between the islands, the ports were not very interesting and just how bad the food was in the restaurants.
It was a relief to be back on our balcony to watch Azura sail away from Funchal.

Day 12: Tuesday 14th November 2023: At sea
Another restful late breakfast in the Horizon buffet – it was a sea day after all!
We were guests at the Caribbean lunch.
Electric Avenue in the theatre
The dress code for the evening was Black Tie. After dinner we went to see Azura’s cast perform Electric Avenue. Lots of memories and nostalgia from the 1980s.
