This was the third round of the Digital Image Competition at Bracknell Camera Club in the 2025-26 season held on January 19th 2026. This was an open round with two entries permitted.
After my two year hiatus from Bracknell CC my Digital Images were entered in the Club league of the competition.
Walking from the light
In November 2024 on a workshop starting at Shard Place I watched people stepping into a pool of light. This is one of those images.

Summary of judge’s comments
… a street style photo here, just an extract of the scene when we see just the feet of someone walking out of the light with a shadow in front of them,
… quite a large pact of solid black top left which really throws into focus the contrast of the light paving and dark shadow of the feet
… nicely back lit with rim light on the one leg , the front foot is nicely in the air not quite toughing the ground and good separation between the foot and the shadow
… so a good example of the kind of high contrast, light and dark that we expect to see in the modern style of street photos
… some people may not like the large area of black but from my point of view it fits the style of the photograph and the style of the street genre that is being captured , I particularly liked the timing of the foot
And from the held back images
… very striking, a street style photo
… very high contrast, big area of negative space
… showing that action foot separated from its shadow in the frame
It must be love
On the second day of a workshop in London in December 2025, we were in and around Brick Lane. I had been taking pictures of a model in Puma Court and this couple stopped and asked what we were doing. After my explanation, I asked them if they would like to pose for me and replicate the nearby street art.

Summary of judge’s comments
… yes this is an extremely intimate moment that has been well captured by the author,
… the choice of monochrome is excellent, it looks like they are standing front of some graffiti which presumably would have had some bright colours which would have really been quite dominating and overpowering in colour
… the couple work very well in monochrome and there is a nice contrast between the blonde hair of the woman and the darker hair of the guy , his dark clothing and her paler face and hair , there is a tonal contrast between the two of them,
.. a very intimate moment that has been well captured
… the key lines here work fine
And from the held back images
… a very strong emotional connection here between the couple
… I like the contrast in tones between the face and hair of the woman and the darker tones of the man
… clearly they are very emotionally connected and that helps us to feel engaged
