This was our second day in Lisbon. After our epic tuk-tuk journey around Lisbon looking at street art and attended the Gary Barlow concert onboard; we decided to have a more restful stroll around the city.
Day 7: Friday 11th October 2024: Lisbon
We had a disturbed night as below on the Promenade deck a very noisy group of kids were enjoying their freedom! But the worst news was the the heavy rain that was falling. Breakfast was in the restaurant on deck 6 sharing a table with the same group of sola ladies.
Rather than walk along the river we caught the shuttle bus into the centre of the City. The bus turned right away from the city and began a long detour to avoid the roadworks.
This route into the city took us on streets that we had never been on before. Up above we could see art and covering vans.
Bus has rain started went the long way round turning right and then into the servers, pass the roots of the Tut
Lisbon Centre
From the drop-off point we walked around the square and headed towards the Santa Justa Lift.
And it started to rain again!
The Santa Justa Lift
We walked up the pedestrian street, , to the base of the lift. Lots of street art and art installations. This is “Pelicans” by Bordalo II. We had seen other installations by this artist the day and all were constructed entirely from trash and recycled materials.
This sculpture is “Sofia” and is attributed to Superlinox, who is sometimes called the “Portuguese Banksy.” Known for placing sculptures in the city overnight. Sofia is holding an iron and perhaps represents all fearless women.

We carried on walking up the hill and down the3 other side after the shopping precinct. The street is now called Rua Nova do Almada.
Turning right down Rua de Sao Nicolau I stopped to explore the shop called “Au Petit Peintre”(At the little painter). A fascinating shop full of original art.

At the corner we stopped for a coffee and to shelter from the rain.
Time to watch passers-by.
After our rest we headed back towards the centre and the ship.

On Iona
After 2pm the sky started to finally clear.
Leaving Lisbon
After 4 pm Iona started to leave Lisbon. The views may be familiar but we still enjoy watching as the ship sails out to the sea.
The Atlantic
Dinner in the Beach House
After a pre-dinner drinks in the Keel and Cow we were in the Beach House.
Digital – in the theatre
A contemporary musical experience like no other.
Join computer-naive Ted and his struggles with his feisty virtual assistant Eliza as they deal with password problems, glitches and virtual reality to name a few.
Spectacular costumes for the dancers…
After the show we checked Iona’s progress and we now travelling at 21 knots down the coast of Portugal, South towards the Straits of Gibraltar.
We had to change our clocks forward overnight to be on Spanish time.
