Open seas:
Times of passing ships:

MS Nordkapp had arrived in Tromsø before midnight and left sometime after 1 am. I missed yet another port after Tromsø but the visit to Harstad had lots of interest with NATO ships in port.
We had been reading about the bad weather further South and later in the day this prevented Nordkapp from docking at two of the scheduled ports.
Tromsø – arrive at 11:45 pm
From the day before arriving in Tromsø.
I went below at 12:15 am but was still awake for a while…
Finnsnes – arrive at 4:20 am
Just as the night before I slept through this port!
I was out on deck waiting to see Harstad and MS Richard Wirth.

Harstad – arrive at 8:00 am
This was an early morning arrival at Harstad. As it turned out there was a lot to see before we even reached the port.
NoCGV Bjørnøya
The NoCGV Bjørnøya is Norwegian offshore patrol vessel of the Jan Mayen class.

We had some great views as Nordkapp sailed into Harstad.
USS Gunston Hall
The USS Gunston Hall is a US Navy LSD of the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship. She was docked much further up the part than the San Giorgio.

San Giorgio

The San Giorgio is the lead ship of the “Saint Class” of LPD ships of the Italian Navy. The Hurtigruten dock was behind the San Giorgio and after MS Richard Wirth had left this is where we docked. This gave a view of the ship and the disembarked troops.
MS Richard Wirth
MS Richard Wirth was docked behind the San Giorgio and as we approached she moved away so that MS Nordkapp could dock in Harstad.
NoCGV Harstad
The NoCGV Harstad is an offshore patrol vessel of the Norwegian Coast Guard.

We were chatting to a Norwegian couple about the building work could see behind the two ships. This was repairing the roof of Hastad’s hospital after the strong winds from February 2023. These were some of the storms that we had experienced on Spirit of Discovery that month.

We went for breakfast!
