Our second Baltic city had been Riga yesterday and now we were at our last, Klaipėda.
Day 12: Sunday 9th July 2023: Klaipėda, Lithuania
After watching Island Princess travel up the river and dock, we had a late breakfast before leaving the ship.
Walking into Klaipėda
We had to walk through a large car and then up the right hand side of the small river towards some buildings.
This is the amazing sculpture looks to be climbing out of the river. It is the “Juodasis Vaiduoklis” (“The Black Ghost”) made of bronze.
In Klaipėda we walked through the old market square to follow the trail that took us past statues in the city. This patrol ship was more on the river.
I walked up the river bank to the steel ribbed ball to have another look at the padlocks. I have entered images of the padlocks from this structure in numerous club photo competitions.

We stopped for a drink before starting our walk back to the ship.
This dragon adorns the wall down a narrow street.
On our way back the heavens opened and we had to seek shelter as the bridge over the river was now closed.
After lunch in the buffet, we went back to the cabin for a rest.
The local pilot was “late“ and Island Princess did not leave until well after 7 pm.
Evening in the Bayou Café
After short wait, we ate in the Bayou Café and steakhouse on Deck 7.
The meal was excellent.
As we had a busy day planned for our next port of Gdynia and a visit to Gdansk, we were back in our cabin watching another movie after dinner.
The clocks went out one hour back overnight.
