This was the second round of the PDI Trophy competition of the season held on November 25th 2025. This round had “Open” as one theme and the other was “Landscape”
For each image I had to choose a roughly defined “genre” with the added condition that each submitted image must have a different “genre”.

While I checked out planned routes for an upcoming workshop I visited Vigo Street in the West End. The advertising boards around this shop had been replaced by large screens covering the building works taking place. This change limited opportunities for juxtaposition images so instead I waited for passers by of the shop window.
I selected “Street” as the genre…

Summary of judge’s comments
… another reflection shot, this guy is walking past a tailor’s shop [window and inside there are ] mannequins with suits on
… suggestion here that the man might want to buy a suit instead of the casual gear that he is wearing
… the position of the main character is brilliant and he is kept nicely within the frame and he has room to move
… a good composition, lovely idea, original
The the score was 9.
North Cape
For this selected theme I was challenged to find a suitable image. Looking back through my Lightroom catalogues landscapes were few and far between! This image was one of several that I took when visiting North Cape from our Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage in 2024. I did more than my usual amount of post production to make this image.
I selected “Landscape” as the genre . . .

Summary of judge’s comments
… just looking at the textures here created by the landscape
… an almost windy feel to, blowing snow across here
… cloud coming into the sky the lines balancing the lines on the land
… the mountains in the middle there and fascinated to see something there
… beautiful shapes on the left hand side, perhaps caused by drifting snow
The score was 7.5.
