This was the first round of the Print Competition at Bracknell Camera Club in the 2025-26 season held on October 13th 2025. This was an open round with two images allowed to be entered.
She is travelling today
On the platform of Baker Street underground station I was taking long exposure pictures as the trains came through. This lady was standing by the door of one of the stopped trains.
Summary of judge’s comments
… [] I like the discrete way that you have taken this shot []I like this one because it is so candid , we wonder what the girl is thinking , is she going or coming back?
… we have a pole right in the middle of the shot , not a problem , it separates the shot into two halves
… in one half you have that lady in the background walking along
… it is printed on gloss paper so I am getting lots of reflections , perhaps printing on slightly different paper would make it stronger
… I also think we could have got a bit more texture , there is not a lot of detail in her dress , I think there is more that you could have pulled out
… it is subtle but in street photographers don;t me commenting but that little mark there draws my eye , in other places you would get picked up on that
… try a radial filter to draw your eye into the face
Just ignore them
In the gardens of the Palais Royale in January 2025 these two ladies were deep in discussion. Behind them a group of kids were getting very excited looking at a game on one of their phones.

… I think in your title that you are saying that they are ignoring what is going on [behind]
… I think if that is the case then getting in closer would have been better, []maybe you took the picture and realised that things were [happening]
… now you’ve decided the subject that emphasise it
… it is very subtle but there are lots of things busy coloured elements , if you are trying to tell a story then emphasise the people , monochrome might have been stronger
… I do like the expression on this face []it is that expression there that you are alluding to in the title
… now what is going on here [the group at the back] , we don’t know what they are doing
.. the other thing I notice was the text , we tend to read it , I am drawn to that, does it add to the scene? It is a distraction I’m afraid
… with those caveats it has not really worked as well as it could have done the elements are all there but …
