This was the second round of the Print Trophy competition of the season held on January 15th 2026. This round had “Open” and “Mono” as themes.
For each image I had to choose a roughly defined “genre” with the added condition that each submitted image must have a different “genre”.
The Photographer
On our Coastal Voyage in February 2024 we were on our way South when the ship docked in Vardø in the late afternoon. Lead by one of the expedition team we went to explore the Vardøhus Fortress. The sun was setting and this was one of the many silhouettes that I took of people on the fortress ramparts.
I selected “Street” as the genre . . .

There were 21 images in this Mono Round and the score was 8.
Summary of judge’s comments
… it is a fairly matte kind of paper so often the default is to have gloss
… I like the fact that it is almost a silhouette , I would probably like it more if it was a silhouette
… the big feature here which I can’t help but notice is the clouds , not sure they add maybe a bit more separate and that one goes through the middle of , the author has added a layer of complexity to what is otherwise a very simple concept about the silhouette

Umbrella reflections
Before a workshop in August 2025 I visited the Leake Street arches to check out the latest street art. As I walked back alongside Waterloo’s Sidings there was a very large puddle and this lady was walking towards me. She was Japanese and I was lucky to capture her reflection along with her umbrella,
I selected “Abstract” as the genre…

There were 21 images in this Open Round and the score was 9.

Summary of judge’s comments
… I like that you presented this upside down, that adds something
… this is a nice reflection, quite muted and so muted that I might have been tempted to make it monochrome
… there is a bit of a highlight at the very top , I would have been inclined to crop it slightly lower to cut this out
… but the concept is really nice , it is a lovely puddle and you have found someone in the right spot
